Are you dreaming of becoming a Realtor? Taking real estate classes is the first step to becoming a licensed real estate professional and starting a successful career. Becoming a Hawaii Real Estate Agent, Broker or Appraiser does not require a college degree, but there are requirements you must adhere to in order to work in each state.
Real Estate schools are available locally and online. Finding one that is reputable and accredited will ensure you are learning the relevant material that you will find when you sit for the licensing exam. Be sure to check for accreditation agencies that are pertinent to your state. Most states have a Real Estate Commission office to regulate this. The Association of Real Estate License Law Officials (ARELLO) regulates the practice of real estate and has a listing of certified schools on their website. The Better Business Bureau will also be able to tell you if the school is operating legally and whether or not there have been any filed complaints against them.
Finally, check with the state regulations regarding real estate practice in your particular state. There is no such thing as a National Real Estate License, and each state in the United States does require a certain amount of pre-license training. This means you must complete a specific amount of course before you are allowed to sit for the real estate licensing exam. For example, Missouri requires 72 hours and California requires 135 hours. Missouri requires the Missouri Salesperson Pre License Course and then the Missouri Real Estate Practice Course. California requires the California Real Estate Principles Course, California Real Estate Practice Course, and the Real Estate Finance or Escrow Course.
Practice exams are a good way to measure your potential of passing your state’s real estate licensing exam. While preparation and studying the course material is necessary to make sure you know what it takes to do your job as a real estate professional, knowing how to take and pass the licensing exam is just as important. As with any school, check the credentials of the company that is providing the practice exams to ensure they are qualified and that there is support if needed.
Once you have completed the appropriate amount of course work and passed your licensing exam, you will have other requirements to meet. While each state determines their own criteria, submitting your application for license and meeting age requirements are typical. Continuing Education credits and renewal applications will be part of maintaining your license in each state as well.
